Brooke Cox is an old feisty tomboy who never finished growing up. She still loves to have fun and read mysteries and action/adventure stories. Being creative and unique is very important to her. Normal is just a setting on her dryer.
She got her desire to write from an usual place: her Peanuts comic books. As a young child, she was fascinated by the pictures of Snoopy sitting on top of his dog house while he typed out his adventure stories. If he could do it, why couldn’t she make up adventure stories too?”
Soon she dared to dream of writing her own book one day. But as she grew older, she eventually forgot about that dream. She married and went onto to college where she received her business degree. But in the back of her mind, she knew she wasn’t doing what she was supposed to be doing.
After having her daughter Sara, Brooke remembered her dream and started writing again. To hone her craft, she took a correspondence course from the Children’s Institute of Literature in writing for Magazine Articles and was recommended for the advanced book writing course. And she joined the ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers).
Her first poem and her first skit were published. She also had short stories and a novella published. Then she had her own column in The Christian On-Line Magazine. During this time, she also wrote devotionals for the women’s ministry at her church.
After reading a mystery book, she had almost the same thought from her childhood: “Why can’t I write a mystery too?” So she researched on how to write a mystery and received a contract on her first mystery book: “Deadly Doll.”
“Deadly Doll” was a 2016 Selah finalist for debut novel and it was an ISPY long list nominee in the mystery genre.
At the 2016 Blue Ridge Writer’s conference, she met Jane Jenkins Herlong. She is a speaker who does inspirational humor. Jane encouraged Brooke to get into storytelling and to hook up with storyteller Kelly Swanson. Brooke did and was able to attend her storytelling camp.
Now Brooke is not only working on some book projects, but she is also working on her storytelling material.
The future looks to be exciting, so she would love for everybody to hang on for the ride!! It’s going to be fun and different.
